It's because he loves the Father best that he also loves us'

Exactly, because He loves the Father BEST. This is missing from so many (including often my) Gospel presentations. I was trying to counter the 'i'm so lovely Jesus died for me' approach, which just isn't saying enough. Christ's affection for us is derived from His affection for the Father, just as the Father's affection for us is derived from His affection for the Son.

God's glory is God's highest concern, and this is the best news there could be for us.Ed Goodehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06242555441606574769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14340387.post-81695217386361506252008-11-13T17:43:00.000-05:002008-11-13T17:43:00.000-05:00Great post, although, if I may be so bold, I think...Great post, although, if I may be so bold, I think Edwards would take issue with your line:
"...to show the world that He loved His Father, not us. Not primarily."

Jesus love for us and his love for the Father are not mutually exclusive. It's because he loves the Father best that he also loves us. When you think that earlier on in the chapter Paul said that we had all turned aside and together become worthless, that love is all the sweeter!

Have memorised the first 3 chapters now, 13 to go! The more I do it, I cannot think of a better way to meditate on scripture than through the memorisation of it.Richard Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01992452050525845190noreply@blogger.com
